Relative to today’s mobile communication systems, it is estimated that 5G should have 1000x higher mobile data volume per area. Data, latency and mobility demands are extremely variable and communication mechanisms bring new challenges.
5G networks will be challenged by connectivity ‘everywhere’, ‘all the time’ with traffic from the ‘internet of things’. Research activities on 5th Generation (5G) of mobile communication are gaining momentum and many academic and industrial consortiums are at the forefront of 5G research.
